There is no turning back from cancer. It is a disease that demands expensive and regular treatments. Once you are diagnosed, there isn’t much you can do except be present at your chemo sessions and follow your oncologist’s advice. However, studies have shown that it is possible to prevent cancer by modifying unhealthy habits and incorporating changes in the diet.

There is a significant connection between the diet of a person and the cancer that he is at the risk of acquiring. It is known that high intake of meat actively contributes to the risk of cancer and consuming grilled meat puts the person at risk of stomach cancer, colon cancer and pancreatic cancer. Since it is proved that the consumption of these foods, indeed increases chances of cancer, eating them in moderation or switching to healthier substitutes may be a good idea.

The number of cases of skin cancer are on the rise but by adopting a judicious lifestyle, you can avoid becoming a victim. While the use of sunscreen is rarely undermined, pay close attention to the product you purchase. If possible, buy sunscreen that is certified by a body of skin specialists and is over SPF 15.

Not many may know this, but there are people who can be at risk of cancer if they are not immunized against diseases like Hepatitis B and Human Pappiloma Virus. Hepatitis B vaccines should be administered quickly after birth, however vaccines for Human Pappiloma Virus must be given when women are between 13 to 26 years of age.

Cancer doesn’t just involve the physical aspect of the disease, the cost is a major aspect that should keep you striving to prevent it wherever possible. Many of those who are out of work have no health insurance currently, and while there are a number of organizations that help raise money for situations of costly treatment, they too are suffering during the recession. Keep in mind that most companies will get you free insurance quotes so that you can ensure that the coverage and price you are paying is worth it.

Lastly, keep yourself in good health and go for regular tests and check-ups. While cases of cancer are still reported after getting regular tests done, they are minimal. Though this will not help you prevent cancer, it will help you diagnose it at the earliest stage possible. With proper medication and treatments, you will then be able to cure your cancer and live a healthier life.
