Cancer and its Types

Cancer can be defined as the growth or division of cells at a rapid and uncontrolled pace. Cancer can affect any organism where cells can multiply such as plants or humans and can be caused in any part of the body.

There are different types of cancer depending on their occurrence. Some of the most common types of cancer are:

BREAST CANCER:
It is found that breast cancer is the most common type of non skin cancer found in women. It originates in the breast tissues and can vary depending on how aggressive it is, the genetic makeup and how far it may have spread. This type of cancer can be cured with a combination of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.

CERVICAL CANCER:
This type of cancer is caused by the multiplication of cells in the cervix or due to an infection called human papilloma virus (HPV). This cancer affects about 2800 women each year in the UK. It is one of the few cancers that can be prevented by a vaccine and regular pap smears.

LEUKAMEIA:
White blood cells are found in the bone marrow. Cancer affecting such cells is called Leukaemia. There are two types of leukaemia -Acute and Chronic. Acute leukaemia is the rapid growth of immature cells while chronic is the growth of mature ones.

LUNG CANCER:
Smoking is the main cause of lung cancer. It is known to be the most common type of cancer that leads to death. The major symptoms of this type of cancer are coughing, weight loss and breathlessness.

PROSTRATE CANCER:
Approximately 3000 men over the age of 50 are known to suffer prostate cancer. This type of cancer is found in the prostate gland and can be cured if it is hasn’t spread outside. Some of the major symptoms of prostate cancer are urination discomfort, pain and blood while passing urine etc.
Apart from the above mentioned articles, there are numerous others such as anal, ovarian, penis, stomach, testicular, brain and eye cancer.
